Seek after God … with everything.
We are interested in holistic growth. True discipleship transforms your heart, intellect, and skills. We are all about giving you opportunities to own your faith and grow.
For 11 weeks during the Outdoor DTS, you will hear speakers from all over the world who live out what they teach. Our lectures are connected with the outdoor activities to give you a practical learning experience of the topic so that the teachings sink deeper into your heart. We will learn together how to use your passion for the outdoors to build God’s kingdom. Learning different outdoor skills, reaching out to the local outdoor community and preparing to possibly reach out to more remote areas in the world are some of the opportunities you will have.
Go out camping, sit around a warm campfire, scale a cliff, explore the forrest right next to our campus, hike up a scenic mountain, take a swim in a crystal clear mountain lake or enjoy a fast bike ride through the woods.
In lecture phase we are able to learn and grow in various outdoor skills. We will then use these skills to reach the outdoor communities around us, as well as apply them in our outreach phase. This Outdoor DTS is open to all people who love to be active in nature and want to learn more! You don’t have
to be a professional in any of these activities to join.
So you want to go deeper in your faith and calling? We have prayerfully chosen supplemental reading, assignments, and projects to expand the understanding and application of what you are learning during the Outdoors DTS. Creatively record and process what God is speaking to you through weekly journals, engage with selected books while writing reports, write about your outreach location, and practice public speaking.
Each week you will hear from world-class speakers on the following topics:
Who is God, really? What if He is infinitely bigger than we have made Him to be? What beautifully vast questions that we can explore for the rest of our lives. Come alongside other classmates, staff, and speakers who are passionate about discovering and loving God deeply and truly. Dig into scripture, read the wisdom of sages, worship, and engage. Bring your heart, your curiosity, your confusion, and your hunger and gain tools to make a lifestyle of getting to know and live with our indescribably wonderful God.
In order to hear how God speaks through logos, you have to actually know how to read His Word. Our goal is to help you learn how to read the scriptures in a new way that not only challenges you but also refreshes and transforms you. Let’s get beyond studying or reading just for the sake of studying or reading. This ancient text contains the timeless love letter of the Maker of the Universe and holds life applicable treasures for those who seek them.
There is nothing more powerful than living a life that reflects Christ. We will encourage you and help you develop a devotional life where you can discover Christ and how to better be His disciple. This is a lifelong journey that can take many shapes during your walk, but there are some key, foundational principles that can help you get started or improve your personal devotional life.
We love relationships here at YWAM Lausanne. We want you to learn how to build solid friendships that are based on the firm foundation of God’s Word. There is nothing stronger than a world-wide community of friends knitted together with the truth of God’s love.
A light is not meant to be hidden. God wants a personal relationship with you and every one of His created children. Imagine if no one dared to tell you about Jesus. Don’t miss the opportunity to lead someone one step closer to knowing Christ. We’ll teach you how to make this a practical lifestyle both locally and internationally.
We are called to pray without ceasing. Here at YWAM Lausanne, we regularly practice hearing what’s on God’s heart and standing in the gap for nations, communities, crises, people groups, and more.
How can we speak truth to the world if we don’t understand truth nor have a broad, cross-cultural understanding of worldview? In order to empower all nations to submit under God’s original design for them, we must be aware of and respect all cultures that God created. On DTS, you can grapple with these concepts over lecture phase then immediately apply them in the diverse cultures that are here in Lausanne as well as on your international outreach phase.
Your life does have purpose; You are not here on accident. As you come to your DTS, we are not going to tell you what you should do with your life. No one can do that for you. Instead, we will help you discover your own unique, God-given gifts. While discovering your strengths, networking with others, and hearing God’s voice, we want to empower you to step into the fullness of what God has for you in your day to day callings and your future calling.
The Bible displays how God is speaks through spoken (rhema) word and the written (logos) word. God is speaking, what is hindering you from listening? We desire for you to hear God and be able to follow all that He speaks through the Word, prayer and more. As you learn to know the voice of your Shepherd, you will be able to grow closer in intimacy with Him.
God has a powerful plan for not just your life, but the lives of your friends, family, and the nations. God’s redemption story has already been set in motion through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. We want you to deeply understand the full meaning of this story so that you can live this plan in your life and to bring it to your communities and to the nations.
Let’s go to the nations.
After completing your lecture phase of the Outdoor DTS in Lausanne, you will travel to another nation for two months, continuing in your journey to know God and make Him known wherever you go. Staff and the base leadership spend time praying and seeking God for where the teams should go, but the locations for the Outdoor DTS are not finalized until after the students have arrived in Switzerland. We want to get to know students and see which outreach locations are a good match for their talents, personalities, and passions. After outreach locations are announced, students have time to pray about the options and seek wise counsel from parents before submitting their choice to the staff. The whole process is covered in prayer as we seek God’s will in this area.
In the past few years, YWAM Lausanne has sent teams to countries in South America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe. These teams have engaged with the nations through activities including prayer, community development projects, evangelism, visiting orphanages, preaching in churches, and seeking to bless the people in ways led by God.
Here at YWAM, we trust God’s provision for our financial needs. There are plenty of ways to trust God with your financial needs. God provides through work savings, the support of family, friends, and church, or other miraculous networks. This is a practical way for others to be a part of God’s work.
Take time to prayerfully consider how to fulfill your part of the financial responsibility. You can prayerfully consider and articulate your vision—inviting others to share in the blessing by participating financially and spiritually. Plan a fundraising party or invite people one on one to support you with one-time or monthly donations. Lecture fees are due on the first full day of your lecture phase. If you have questions about fundraising, feel free to contact us at [email protected].
So you’ve decided to come to YWAM Lausanne. Welcome. Get stoked. Your transformation starts now—even before you approach our doorstep.
Get your heart right by praying in expectation for this time: God, what do you want to teach me? How do you want to prepare me? What do you want me to bring to this community? As questions and hopes start to arise, record them and see how God nurtures and grows you through them.
On the arrival day for your school, we will meet you at the Lausanne train station. Watch this video to learn how to take the train from the Geneva airport to Lausanne. We’ll see you soon!
In the Outdoor DTS, we will have activities, like hiking and rock climbing, connected with what we are learning in our lectures. We still have all the DTS elements and cover topics like the nature and character of God, hearing God’s voice and identity in Christ, but we learn within the context of our outdoor activities as well during the week, such as climbing, hiking, and cycling. Sometimes our classroom will be outdoors, surrounded by the Swiss Alps. We stay at the YWAM Lausanne base but we will also have some camping trips and so lectures could take place outdoors around the campfire. This school is about inviting God into every area of lives.
You don’t have to be an experienced hiker, climber or camper to come. The most important thing is that you enjoy being outdoors and in nature. If you want to learn in this area and improve your skills, you are welcome to join us this summer. The school is set up so that we learn skills together and we’ll have teaching on different topics so that you grow in your confidence. So the main thing is that you come with a desire to be outdoors and active.
Switzerland is a beautiful country with some stunning aspects of creation, like mountains, lakes, and forests. Swiss people love nature and being active, so it’s an integral part of our culture to appreciate the outdoors. We also have a well-maintained network of hiking trails, which are interconnected all over the nation. We have about 65,000 kilometers of hiking trails, which if arraigned into a straight line would wrap around the globe one and half times. And the cool thing is volunteers maintain many of these trails. So being outdoors and active in nature is something that Swiss people value.
