So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,  and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31-32

The Purpose of DBS is…

To bring you closer in intimacy with God as you see Him revealed in His Living Word through:

  • Learning ‘the inductive’ Bible study method which will help you gain an understanding of the Bible for yourself.
  • Gaining knowledge of both the overall story of the Bible as well as the original context of each individual book (authorship, recipient, historical background, reason why it was written, etc.).
  • Growing in understanding of the major discipleship issues expressed in the messages and themes found in the Bible.
  • Being trained to see our world and culture through a Biblical worldview.
  • Being challenged and stretched so that you develop habits of perseverance and discipline that lead to strong character.
  • Learning and applying the skill of leading a Bible study small group, where you will grow in leadership, working in groups and time management.
  • Falling deeper in love with God and His Word so that you can leave with a strong desire to press on in your life to know Him better and to make Him known.
  • Above all, this is the school for the whole person – your heart, mind, soul and body will all be engaged in what we do together.

Discipleship Bible School

30 June 2021 - 15 September 2021

The Discipleship Bible School is a place to encounter God through His Word. In this school you will chronologically read through the entire Bible, studying its context and themes and learning to live out what it says. The DBS introduces students to the 'inductive method' of studying the Bible.

Course Content

Learn how to effectively help and empower.

In this 12-week introduction to the Bible, the bible comes alive as we dive into ‘God’s Story’ study together and discover the purposes of God in it.   We will read the entire Bible, observe the chronology of biblical events, better understand each book in its historical context, understand the harmony between the books, be able to recognize the different genres of literature, and the major themes found in these 66 books. One of the best ways to learn the foundational truths of Christianity is by going directly to the source.

Living together in community with students and staff also provides you with  opportunities everyday to apply what you have learnt, build relationships and model Christ!

Study Overview

Topics in DBS generally follow through the books that we are chronologically studying. Although each book is studied to discover its original intent, you will also be taught on topics. For example – you will look at Worldview and Origins as you study through Genesis, Exodus, and Job. Or you might look at Leadership and Worship as you study the life of David in 1 & 2 Samuel, Chronicles, and the Psalms. Or during the study of Acts and Paul’s missionary journeys you might study Cross-cultural Missions and the Cost of the Call. Each book is filled with insights to be discovered!

Applied Discipleship

As a result, you will be able to share your faith more confidently with those who are seeking to know Jesus (evangelism), and explain the Word of God more accurately to those who’ve already come to faith (discipleship).

The course is like a sequel to the DTS. You will continue the discipleship process begun in the DTS by addressing a variety of topics illuminated in the Scriptures, by building godly character and developing a lifelong hunger and love for the Word. This will not only be accomplished in the classroom, but also outside the classroom, through one-on-ones, small groups, evangelism and times of ministry in the community. In the DBS we get to know God more, and the Bible becomes our companion for life!

Course Content

During this course, we will…

  • Chronologically read through all the 66 books of the Bible!
  • Learn each book’s historical & cultural context.
  • Discover the Bible’s literary genres and main themes.
  • See how the narratives, wisdom literature and prophets in the Old Testament and the Gospels, Epistles and Revelation in the New Testament all connect and form one big picture that shows God’s redemptive story with mankind.
