During the outreach phase you will have hands on experiences and opportunities to apply the things you’ve learned in class, and share Jesus with people in a country you’ve probably never been to before.
Connecting with your team
Outreach teams (which will be formed during the lecture phase) prepare for their trip through things such as on-going prayer for the people and nations you will minister to, learning creative ways to reach out to people, bonding as a team, learning how to share your testimonies and everyone’s personal favorite . . . getting immunizations. You will have time to bond as a team before you go to the field, which will help you be more effective on outreach. That’s why so much time is spent preparing with your outreach team during the lecture phase, so that teams are ready to love and serve the people they plan to minister to as well as each other.
Ministry Opportunities
Each outreach is unique depending on where you go. Your ministry will adapt to meet the needs of the local situations with a heavy emphasis on evangelism. Past outreach teams have engaged in construction projects, teaching English, and children’s programs. Your team leaders will do all they can to plan for activities and ministry, but you will always have times when a pastor calls on your team to lead the church service five minutes before it starts. Outreach will always keep you on your toes, and you will find that flexibility and a sense of humor are prerequisites during your outreach. No matter where in the world you end up, you’ll never be the same when you’re done.
“We often think that Europeans’ hearts are closed to the Gospel and not very approachable, but my time in London for outreach proved that this is not true. People were friendly and amazingly open to hearing about Jesus. It was a reminder to me that God gave his Son as a gift to everyone—and Europeans, more than ever, need to receive it.” . . . Heonjun (South Korea)
“I love my country! So it was incredibly special for me to take an outreach team to Brazil. It was so cool to watch how God uses young people—fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen year olds—to minister and to touch people’s lives. I am blessed to have people from different countries come and share their testimonies, talk about Jesus and fall in love with my nation too.” . . . Raquel (Brazil)
