Learning Activities

You and the Holy Spirit: God is in you. He has led you here for a reason. He has a purpose for you. He will continually be active in you revealing, comforting, encouraging, teaching, correcting, purifying, instructing and empowering you to be and to do his will.

Lectures: Play an important role in providing the content, principles, and opportunities for the word of God to minister to us.

Quiet times: This is your own time with the Lord. It is reserved for a deepening of your relationship with Him. Our goal is for you to learn to make this a priority and to discipline yourself to meet regularly with God.

Worship: Corporate worship is a regular part of the class and community schedule. In these times God often brings fresh revelation to us.

Intercession: Each week as a class and community, we meet to pray for the nations. This is a key value in both DTS and YWAM.

Small groups: Each student is assigned a group to process the week’s teaching and get to know each other better in a small group setting.

One on ones: ‘One on One’ time is a meeting between a student and their assigned staff member to process the week’s teaching and share what God is speaking to them. This time will allow students to verbally process the work that God is doing in them.

Local outreach: Our purpose in YWAM is to know God and make Him known. You have come here to get to know God better and to learn how to reach the lost. There are many opportunities to take part in ministry to the local community during the lecture phase of DTS.

Practical ministries: Each student is involved in approximately 10 hours per week of practical work where we learn to apply the ways of God in our work ethic. Living and working together unifies us as a community. Many times God speaks to us outside the formal setting of learning, this is why working together is so important in YWAM.

DTS journal: Journaling is an excellent way to artistically record personal revelation and the words of the Lord. It is a great reminder of the work that God did in the hearts and lives of the students. Journals will be due weekly.

Book report: Students create one book report for each book that they are assigned. Each book is especially selected to help deepen your relationship and understanding of God.

Outreach paper: Students write one research paper relating to their outreach location, which will enable them to be more effective.

Public speaking: Each student participates in sharing testimonies, student forums and short talks to prepare for outreach.

Community meetings: We have the joy of gathering as staff and students for times of worship, teaching and celebration. We also have fun ‘Café nights’ and ‘Love feasts’ too!

Live learn: We learn as we share our daily lives, in work, play and celebration. This is just as important as our learning in the classroom.

Some of Highlights of the lecture topics:

Learning about the nature and character of God

Through things like reading the scriptures, prayer, worship, and devotional time, we want you to understand all aspects of God, such as His holiness, faithfulness, mercy, and grace. This topic will take your whole lifetime to cover and even then be insufficient, but the intent of our including this within the DTS is to cover the topics that are most relevant and important to young people and to discuss aspects of God that can bring about the most change in your life right now.

Learning how to hear the voice of God

Yes, God still speaks! We desire for you to hear God and be able to follow all that He speaks to us through the Word, through prayer and other ways as well. Everyone hears God in a way that is unique to them and we can all hear God speak through His Word. Our desire is that you learn to better hear from God and grow closer to Him.

Understand the purpose of God’s redemption through the cross

God has a powerful plan for your life and it has already been set in motion through his sacrifice on the cross. We want you to understand the full meaning of the cross and redemption though His sacrifice so you can start to realize just how much God cares for all of His children.

Unleashing the power of the Word

Our goal is to help you learn how to read the scriptures in a new way that not only challenges you but also refreshes and changes you. We don’t want you to study or read just for the sake of studying or reading, but because they are great avenues in which to lead you closer to God in your daily relationship with Him!

Developing Christ-like behavior and a powerful devotional life

There is nothing more powerful than living a life that reflects Christ. We will encourage you and help you develop a devotional life where you can discover Christ and how to better be His disciple. This is a life-long journey that can take many shapes during your walk, but there are some key, foundational principles that can help you get started (or improve) your personal devotional life.

Learning how to make and keep healthy relationships

We love relationships here at YWAM Lausanne. We want you to learn how to build solid friendships that are based on the firm foundation of God’s Word. There’s nothing stronger than a world-wide community of friends knitted together with the truth of God’s love

Evangelism and missions

A primary goal at YWAM is to spread the gospel so we can reap a great harvest of souls for God. We’ll teach you more about doing this practically in teams and also one on one as you prepare for the outreach phase of the school.

Biblical worldview and cross-cultural ministry

We strive for our students to have a broad and biblical worldview and to be aware of, and respect all cultures that God created. All our DTS outreaches are international, giving you the chance to minister in a place that you’ve probably never been too, amongst people who need to hear the truth of Jesus!

Spiritual warfare and intercession

We believe that God has called us to pray for people and regions that are lost, or are in need. We teach students about intercession so they can participate in deep prayer to help bring change to a world in need. We also do this practically as a base once a week in teams.

Discovering God’s purpose for your life

Yes, your life has purpose! Once at YWAM, we will help you discover your unique gifts that the Lord has blessed you with, so you can effectively fulfill His calling for your life. This is what it’s all about! Learning about who you are in Christ, and how that looks with what God wants you do with what He’s given you.
