description
The boarders dts is six months that can radically transform you! Like a normal dts, it's designed to help you to know God better, develop personal character and live a lifestyle of making God known to others.
In addition, however, the boarders dts is structured around the winter sports of skiing and snowboarding. Not only so you can beef up your skills but also use sports and culture to reach the lost. The boarders dts aspires to help you grow and exercise faith while cultivating a deep and intimate relationship with God. It also aims to help you in identifying your unique gifts and life callings. As you live and learn together in community with others from around the globe, you'll have the opportunity to minister cross-culturally in the swiss alps as weekends will be spent on the slopes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this dts for?
This dts is for anyone who has professed their faith in Jesus and wants to learn more about and experience who their identity is IN Him. Apart from that foundation its designed around the winter sports of skiing and snowboarding, so we ask that you have at least a love of these sports.
How much is this going to cost me?!!
As you probably guessed, running a dts like this has some added costs associated with it. The price is constructed in two parts, one being the normal dts cost for ywam lausanne which is 3,690 CHF (Swiss Francs), and the second being a winter activity fee.
What is a winter activity fee?
Skiing sure ain't as free as swimming is in summer! The winter activity fee covers the additional cost of ski passes, transportation, and incidental things related to the boarders dts. We try to keep this cost as low as possible.
What other costs am I responsible for?
All of your meals, transportation, and ski passes are included in the winter activity fee. You will be responsible for your equipment and winter clothes. If you need to rent equipment, it is possible in Switzerland to rent gear for a whole season. Below are some approximate costs. (These are only approximates.)
• Snow Skis CHF 200-300 (depends on quality of ski. Cheapest skis are not recommended.)
• Snowboard CHF 230-250
• Ski/Board shoes CHF 110-190 (depends on size, brand, type, etc.)
You may want to consider buying a set of equipment before you come. If you plan on purchasing your own gear, it is most times much cheaper in North America than it is in Europe if you are able to purchase it there.
Is this dts only for snowboarders?
No. Skiers, snowboarders, softboot, raceboard, whatever... If its something you can ski on the mountain, you're invited. We've talked a lot about the name, but in the end "all the above snow sports dts" doesn't roll off the tongue well!
What if I don’t know how to ski or snowboard?

Great question. If you have never touched the snow before, this may not be the best time to learn because we hope you will be able to hang out with your dts mates on the slopes and not by yourself on the bunny hill. If you know the basics but aren’t a pro yet, then we would be welcome you to come and get better! If you are pretty good at other sports related like skating, boarding, or surfing and think you can catch on pretty quickly, then contact us and we can work that through on a personal basis.
How much skiing will I get to do?
We hit the slopes every weekend for one day. We will look at the overall schedule and weather and see which day fits best each week. We also spend one whole week of lectures on the slopes in addition to other random days throughout the school. If you want to go skiing more with your free time, you are welcome to, but will be responsible to cover your ski pass and transport costs for those days.
Will we get a season pass?
Sorry, season passes are much more expensive in Switzerland than our usage needs. We will take care of all the logistics of lift tickets for you though once you are here.
What will we do with our time on the slopes?
Sports offer a great platform for group interaction and a more creative way to learn to be discipled in all areas of our lives. We will be on the slopes to have fun and see God work in us outside the classroom. We will also do different types of creative ministry on the mountain. The main focus of our outreach is simply loving people in practical ways.
Will the outreach phase of DTS be winter sports oriented as well?
We would love for some outreach teams to be able to do ministry during outreach in this forum, but the timing of the outreach phase (March – June) does not offer winter sports in most areas of the world. We focus more on the outreach locations during the lecture phase of the school and see where God leads us. In the past we have sent teams to snowboarding locations, but this entirely depends on each school and the opportunities available.
Can I only come for the 3 month lecture phase of the dts?
Thanks for asking, but…NO. Here in YWAM, we believe strongly in the live/learn approach to discipleship. Ask anyone who has done a dts and you will find most people learn and grow more during the outreach phase than the lecture phase. Don’t look at dts as two 3 month parts…look at it as a 6 month experience of learning God’s way in your life!!
What is the difference between a normal dts and a boarders dts?

DTS is all about learning to hear God’s voice in our lives and taking that lesson to the nations so others can experience the relationship that God desires for all of mankind. Our boarders dts is just a creative approach expanding the live/learn idea of discipleship. The time on the mountain is fun any way you slice it. What makes a boarders dts different is that we are on the slopes to make friends and show the tangible love of Christ. From the simple things like memorizing a lift operator's name to listening to someone's story on the ride to the top, we are there to be His hands and feet. That's what this dts is about...taking the transformation that God is doing in our lives' OUTSIDE the classroom and into the world!
