church history and cathedral
The cathedral was restored in the 17th and 19th centuries, notably under the supervision of the famous French architect E.E. Viollet-le-Duc. It is a place of prayer, worship and contemplation. The churches in Switzerland were stirred up in the reformation through the colourful characters of Zwingli and Farel, followed later by John Calvin. The Swiss Reformation came later than the German Reformation under Luther, but it was just as radical. This religious renewal movement impacted government and society dramatically.
Today, there is still radical change occurring in the Swiss churches of all denominations. They are expressing their unity in many joint ventures and, in particular, as they unite to host the many Alphalive groups. This dynamic new way of introducing people of all ages to Jesus was started in Holy Trinity Church Brompton London. It is exciting to see the strength of this unity. It has been incredibly successful in its modern approach, using hospitality and friendship as its base.
train station
The train station is an ideal pick-up and drop-off point for staff and students. It provides direct access to the Geneva airport via a beautiful 40 minute ride through the Swiss countryside.
saturday markets
The proximity of the countryside, vineyards and the lake, is expressed in the variety of products found in the open-air markets. In the summer, a Sunday market is set up in Ouchy. There is a flea market in the Place Chauderon, a craft market in the Place de la Palud, while flowers and honey are found in Saint Louis and the Derrière-Bourg respectively.
